Woman's family believes hospital negligence killed her

When Oregon residents go to the emergency room complaining of some condition or ailment, they expect the doctors, nurses and other medical staff to listen to their complaints. It can be frustrating when patients feel that their concerns are not being properly addressed. Just because a patient is not a medical professional does not mean that he or she is wrong. When medical staff do not take patients seriously, hospital negligence can be the result.

Medical experts may be used to identify doctor errors in claims

Many Oregon readers would agree that understanding medical procedures and terminology can be a challenge. For this reason, most malpractice claims alleging doctor errors require an appropriate medical expert to review the case and provide an opinion regarding whether the doctor made a mistake. The expert's testimony can be invaluable in explaining what went wrong to the court and/or a jury.

Woman files wrongful death suit claiming hospital negligence

Oregon readers may already be aware that what happens in the hours following a major surgery is crucial to a patient's recovery. For instance, after heart bypass surgery, it may be necessary to help oxygenate the patient's blood. This is often achieved using an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation machine (EMCO), which circulates the blood. The machine can only do its work properly if those attending the patient are careful. In one wrongful death case in another state, a woman claim's her husband's death was caused by hospital negligence.

Feds say fewer patients affected by hospital negligence

In 2010, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality began tracking certain conditions acquired in hospitals that adversely affect patients in hospitals across the country, including those here in Oregon. The data was gathered from 2010 through 2014. The results of the study indicate that the number of hospital negligence instances caused by the conditions tracked in the study dropped nearly 17 percent during that time.

Couples suing for fertility doctor errors

Many couples throughout the country -- including many here in Oregon -- are unable to have children on their own. They require medical intervention in order to conceive, and they entrust their ability to have a child to fertility doctors and science. When doctor errors take away their dreams of being parents, a medical malpractice suit may be appropriate.
