On Behalf of | May 19, 2021 | Failure To Diagnose |

Medical professionals have extensive technology and research at their disposal. You would think that this would mean that they would be able to provide effective and timely care that ensures patient safety, but the truth of the matter is pretty grim. This is unacceptable, which is why if you think that your doctor or nurse has wronged you then you should consider taking legal action.

Did your doctor miss your breast cancer?

Many forms of cancer can be effectively treated if caught in its early stages. Breast cancer is no exception. In order to catch this disease in its earliest forms, doctor can use one of a number of tests. If your breast cancer was misdiagnosed or missed altogether, then you might want to consider whether your doctor ordered these tests and accurately read their results:

  • Mammogram: This conventional test utilizes X-rays to screen for abnormalities that require a closer look.
  • Ultrasound: Here, sound waves are used to produce images of breast tissue that is deeper than that on the surface. An ultrasound can help detect lumps and assist doctors in determining whether they are cancerous in nature or merely a cyst.
  • MRI: An MRI, like other testing measures, creates an image of the interior of the breast so that lumps can be detected an properly evaluated. This testing does not use radiation like the other tests do, so this one might be used in place of a mammogram or an ultrasound.
  • Biopsy: In most, if not all, cases, the only way to know for sure whether a lump is cancerous is to remove part of it and test it. Your doctor should carefully conduct this step to ensure that enough of the right tissue is removed from the breast and analyzed properly.
