Cancer fatigue is very real

On Behalf of | Dec 13, 2019 | Hospital Negligence |

Cancer impacts people in very different ways, but one thing that many people experience is known as cancer fatigue. It can happen even when the cancer is being treated properly, and it generally leaves you feeling exhausted, weak and tired.

The problem is that medical professionals do not always treat this fatigue properly. Experts at the Mayo Clinic warn that “the exact causes of cancer fatigue and how best to treat it aren’t always clear.” This can lead to mistakes and oversights that can be very problematic for you.

The reasons for this fatigue include:

  • The cancer itself
  • The toll that treatment takes
  • Difficulty sleeping during treatment
  • Issues with stress and anxiety
  • Poor nutrition and an inability to eat
  • The raw emotional impact of the experience
  • Anemia caused by the treatment
  • Pain caused by the cancer, the treatment or both

Unfortunately, the treatments that work with cancer are also very hard on your body, so the entire experience can be exhausting. This happens even when the doctors are doing their best and taking the right course of action.

When the medical staff makes mistakes, overlooks your fatigue, does not offer proper treatment or commits errors that make things far worse for you than they have to be, then the feelings of pain and fatigue can be overwhelming. You don’t deserve sub-standard care that makes this trying time any harder than it has to be.

If that is the type of care that you get, it is very important for you to understand all of the legal options you have and the steps you can take.
