Does your doctor really know what’s going on?

On Behalf of | Jun 6, 2019 | Failure To Diagnose |

Many issues in the doctor’s office, such as a failure to make a proper diagnosis, happen because of miscommunication. If your doctor does not really know what is going on with your care, he or she could make mistakes that could have been avoided.

One thing to watch out for is when a doctor, while telling you about the test results or the course of action they want to take, says something to the effect of “Our team decided…” This could mean that the doctor did not make the decision at all.

For instance, some experts say that doctors who do this could be telling you that they were on break or off for a shift change, and someone else made a decision. They don’t have any idea what happened when they weren’t working. This isn’t their choice, but it’s still what they have to report to you.

That’s why the doctor is careful to blame it on the “team” instead of themselves. This makes it appear that they’re part of the team, but they may really be saying that “someone else” made the choice for them.

If that’s what happened, you need to question how good the communication was between the doctor and the rest of the team. Any time information changes hands, there is the chance that someone could make a mistake, a misdiagnosis or some other crucial error. That’s when you suffer because of their mistakes.

If this has already happened to you, make sure you are well aware of all of the legal rights you have to financial compensation.
