Convicted ex-nursing assistance acquitted of new charges

| Jul 31, 2017 | Hospital Negligence |

Medical malpractice is a serious threat to patients, especially patients who cannot speak for themselves or who have trouble asserting themselves. When a nurse or doctor takes advantage of a patient, it is horrifying for family members and can leave patients with mental and physical injuries.

This case is interesting, because although the man did admit to abusing two elderly patients, he denied allegations that he was involved in the abuse of five others. The man was found not-guilty on the five additional charges of sexual abuse against five women who were in his care at Providence St. Vincent Hospital.

The 35-year-old man is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence for the sexual abuse of two patients, a 94-year-old woman and an 89-year-old woman. He admitted to the abuse, but the court records show he has appealed the conviction since the trial.

In the cases of the two women above, there are pending lawsuits against Providence Health & Services. Four women are also seeking over $1 million in a different lawsuit that claims that the senior rehabilitation center in Portland, along with its management firm, did not investigate the abuse allegations against the man when he was working at the facility. They also claim the allegations weren’t reported to the state nursing board. That facility is the one that gave the man a reference to move to Providence’s hospital.

Cases like this are sad because some of the abuse may have been preventable. If you’re injured, you, too, have a right to seek compensation for what you’ve been put through.
