If your loved one is in a nursing home or hospital, you expect that he or she will receive the best care. Not getting the care they need puts them at risk of further injuries. Sometimes, they’re at risk of abuse, especially if a hospital or facility is negligent during the hiring process.
That’s what took place in this case that has several people suing over abuse and harassment. The senior care center is facing allegations over an incident involving sex abuse claims. According to a lawsuit, a Portland senior rehabilitation center did not report or discipline an employee even though he’d been accused of six or more sexual abuse incidents. The facility didn’t fully investigate the allegations that the certified nursing assistant had raped an elderly patient. It was also claimed that the man had touched others sexually.
The director of the facility failed to follow through on the investigation and went as far as to threaten to fire a woman who had been complaining about sexual harassment on the job by the same male nursing assistant.
The 35-year-old man admitted to raping an 89-year-old woman and abusing a 94-year-old woman sexually while he was caring for them. In February, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the crimes.
He will again face trail in June for sexual abuse claims that allege he abused five other female patients during his work. It’s been said that due to his first employer’s negligence in failing to report the incidents, the man was able to move on to continue abusing women at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.
