You don’t have to suffer financially after medical malpractice

On Behalf of | Feb 10, 2017 | Surgical Errors |

A wrong-site surgery can cause a number of health concerns for you. Imagine going into the hospital to have part of your left lung removed. When you wake up, you find out that the surgeon took part of your right lung instead. You’d be upset, and you’d have every right to seek out compensation through a medical malpractice lawsuit.

Events like this are rightly termed “never events,” because they should never take place. Undergoing the wrong surgery means a patient may need additional surgery and have suffered irreparable harm to a healthy part of his or her body.

It’s not just wrong-site surgeries to look out for. Some patients actually have surgeries performed on them that were intended for someone else. Wrong-patient surgeries may be a result of paperwork being confused or two patients with similar names being in similar rooms. Or, a patient who was having an operation at the same time may have been given the wrong bracelet without anyone checking to verify the patient’s name or date of birth.

It’s always important for hospitals, doctors, surgeons, nurses and other staff members to go through all the proper safety procedures before a surgery. If one of these people fails to do so, it puts a patient at risk of harm and could result in a never event.

If you’ve been a victim of a never event, it’s important that you speak out. With the right changes, this doesn’t have to happen to someone else. On top of that, you have every right to have treatment for the error and to receive compensation for your pain and suffering. Our website has more information.
