Hospital negligence injures more people than it kills

| Nov 23, 2015 | Hospital Negligence |

Any death due to medical error is tragic, and reports indicate that nearly 400,000 people die each year from medical and/or hospital negligence throughout the country. However, 10 to 20 times more people suffer injuries at the hands of doctors, nurses and other hospital staff. Hospital negligence can cause serious injury that leaves an Oregon resident with a debilitating and/or permanent condition.

Hospital errors occur under a variety of circumstances. For instance, when a pregnant woman is admitted to deliver her baby, errors can harm either the mother or the baby — in some cases, both can suffer injuries. Oregon readers who require a surgical procedure may know about the risks associated with the procedure, but they may not be aware that they are at risk from mistakes that could be made by the surgeon or a member of the surgical staff before, during and after the procedure.

Patients may not be properly monitored while in a hospital’s care. In other cases, a physician could fail to order a test that could identify a serious condition or illness. These errors can occur due to lack of staff, lack of time or a doctor’s inability to look beyond the first inclination of what may be wrong with a patient.

Regardless of the circumstances surrounding the error, if one was made, it could have serious repercussions for you. The person or persons you believe are responsible may be financially accountable. If your situation warrants a medical malpractice claim, you could be awarded restitution for the damages you incurred as a result of hospital negligence.
